Providing nomadic CORBA servers by integrating Π2 and FATIMA

چکیده
This paper presents an efficient solution for the nomadic CORBA server problem. The generic CORBA proxy platform Π2 provides efficient and transparent nomadic access to existing applications by offering a hand-over between different network types, optimized transport protocols for the wireless access, and application-specific compression. Up to now, Π2 was missing nomadic server functions. FATIMA as a Mobile IP extension providing micro-mobility and enhanced security support can provide the necessary location functionality used to track a mobile server. An integration of FATIMA and Π2 offers both an efficient support for the nomadic user and nomadic servers resulting in the required efficient and secure nomadic CORBA server support.

A CORBA Language Mapping for Tcl
Tcl is designed to be a powerful general-purpose scripting language and is often referred to as a glue language, to glue together various parts of an application. Often, these “various parts,” or components, are realized as C code that is registered with the interpreter as a custom command. It is easy to imagine these components as being distributed – a custom command could cause some sort of r...
متن کاملIntegrating ObjectBroker and DCE Security
Vol. 9 No. 1 1997 An object request broker (ORB) is a distributed software layer that translates abstract service requests from a client application into requests for specific servers, regardless of where those servers actually reside on the network. In this way, ORBs provide a middle tier in multitiered client-server systems. The ObjectBroker software, developed and distributed by strategic pa...
متن کاملCORBA Directories for Virtual Home Environments
In this paper, we present a CORBA directory which serves for the easy deployment of intelligent services in VHE scenarios. This approach bridges the gap between LDAP and CORBA technology as the de-facto standards for directory and distributed object technology, respectively. We have implemented both pure CORBA servers and LDAP wrappers, each of which providing fully transparent CORBA access to ...
متن کاملMobility Support with Corba Directories
In the very near future, various aspects of mobility will play a major role in telecommunications. For the support of user and service mobility, the location-independent storage and retrieval of all kind of user-related information is essential. For this purpose, directories are the basic supporting technology. One of the most widely accepted standards for directories is LDAP. On the other hand...
متن کاملPeople, places, things: Web presence for the real world
The convergence of Web technology, wireless networks, and portable client devices provides new design opportunities for computer/communications systems. In the HP Labs’ “Cooltown” project we have been exploring these opportunities through an infrastructure to support “web presence” for people, places and things. We put web servers into things like printers and put information into web servers a...
